Baby Adornment

I’ve been having this debate with my parents lately about putting jewelry on children. When I was a baby, some relatives from the Indian side of my family bought me some very nice gold jewelry. I believe I had two bracelets and a tiny ring with my initial engraved on it. Recently, my parents’ house was broken into and these items were lost. The insurance company has been acting like my parents never had any of the things that they claimed to have and has forced me to look through old photos trying to find proof that these items did exist.

So my parents just found one of the bracelets and called me to tell me the good news because they want me to be able to pass it on to my kids one day, but I’m not sure I’d put jewelry on a baby. Is that wrong? I just think its sort of silly to adorn a baby with accessories. That ring I mentioned earlier – it wasn’t stolen. I lost it when I was wearing it at about age 4 in somebody’s yard. This is my point. Babies are going to lose things. Should they be wearing real gold?

Thank goodness my parents didn’t have my ears pierced that young. I’ve got a whole other can of stories about piercing baby ears too long to dive into here.

So I’m curious, baby adornment or no?

baby bling. what better time to get a nice gold grill but when all the baby teeth are falling out. i am all for baby adornment but only if it goes with their tattoos.

    excellent baby pics

    look how cute, little Shekira!
Scout has some jewelry that she received as gifts…she has never worn any of it. She can have her ears pierced when she is old enough to ask to have it done.

Sure, why not? Just get them things they can’t lose. Perhaps a choke collar. A bracelet with prongs on the inside that rip flesh when pulled off. Ball and chain for the ankles?

When you have a baby I will buy it a beautiful belly ring made of nettles and barbed wire.

    Ooh - sea nettles?

yup. very purty, them sea nettles. I have some chipmunk droppings that would make sum nice broaches, too.

hmm…I haven’t bought any jewelry for Scarlett yet…and if I do in the near future, it will only be worn for special occasions only…pics and holidays. As for the ear piercing, I’m waiting till she’s older and can tell me if she wants it done or not…kinda like the whole baptism thing :) Honestly, I debated the issue when she was a baby but then realized that I wouldn’t be doing anything for her at all except causing her pain and discomfort (I think they go through enough…being taken out of their cozy little womb, gas, teeth, etc.). It would have been a huge selfish act on my part. I hope I don’t offend anyone by saying that…just my opinion. BUT, those pics of you are freakin’ adorable, bracelet included.
